school hasn't been
too fun.
somehow
this semester,
everyone seems to be in a hurry
to Get Out There:
all these over zealous
undergrads with high aspirations,
and the school-
determined as ever
to squeeze all of us into the
used to death model
of mass producing
identical versions
of money-making machines.
while of course,
it is in our interests
to take this tried and tested
convenient route
(not forgetting that the school
itself runs as a business),
it is times like these
that i really doubt
how i can ever fit into
the Corporate World in this
unwelcoming concrete jungle.
to me
it doesnt make too much sense
when everyone tries to do "Professional",
and while at it,
feel the same discomfort, tension
and awkwardness,
and yet still want to
maintain this status quo...
maybe the people of the future will
look back at us and wonder
how restrained people of the past
used to be,
the way we see
ancient civilisations-
can you visualise how ridiculous
we would seem??

sometimes sadness comes
in a calm enduring
heavy-heartedness-
rational,
silent and
sore.
so this will take a while,
but i've always done
it on my own.

caught I am Queen
out of the OCBC theatre festival.
it played out the life
of a Stripper
in the pre anti-vice movement days
of the 1950s in Singapore.
it was quite
moving particularly
when the dying raped Betty
laid onstage as
her broken, damaged soul slowly
died along with her
abused, unloved body.

it is all very sad
how men objectify women and
how women themselves
perpetuate it.
sometimes i don't understand
why we all succumb to the
expectations that
society put on us women,
to look or be a certain way.
it is certainly not
absolutely reasonable
yet,
how many of us can garner that
much strength
and courage to
challenge this
status quo?

it will always be an irony
how women destroy one another
and damage themselves
trying too hard to live up
to these expectations
just so men could be happy.

i think too many
people dwell too much
on the need to
know Everyone beyond the
superficial.

there are some people
who i am sure are good ol
nice folks
in their own rights
but just simply
are on a
very different wavelength
from that i'm living on.

in these cases
i really don't see any
real motivation for
intrusive-type socialising
unless Work or Future Needs
call for it.

after all:
life already is
THIS tiring,
there really isnt any need
to agonise one another furthur
with incompatible outlooks on life/
awkward silences/ desperate attempts
to churn out conversational topics
and then
shock one another with
our different ideas on humour.

the more of people i see,
the more convinced i am
that i'm probably
living on a pretty strange
wavelength,
and i am yet more relieved
that even at this
pretty strange wavelength,
i have found my platoon
of strange good friends.

in the foodcourt at the
Old Canteen A in NTU,
eyes glued to the LCD screens,
and then
the crowd erupts.

FINALLY OUR FIRST FREAKIINNN
MEDAL IN ALMOST HALF A CENTURY.

can you imagine the finals:
chinese($_$/MAJULAHSINGAPURA)
VS chinese (loyaltyZzz/我爱祖国)

the team was truly exquisite
but did WE really have anything
to do with it??
i guess what WE had was
good foresight
in ermm outsourcing
and having enough dollars to
lure our imports in.

still
the whole country
going into simultaneous elation
is sweet.
OUR FLAG IS FLYING HIGH
WOOOHOOOO.

say good bye to $750 000
( or by some divine intervention
if we strike GOLD: $1.5 mil)
worth of country revenue, darlings!

i think it is
difficult to come to terms
with how humiliating and foolish
we used to be,
or worse, still can be.

sadly not all of us
are capable of
operating very elegantly
through life,
so sometimes it is
better to take it all
in our own stride.

maybe it is just
no good to stop and
see how far
you've come in comparison
to The Others.
even tho
they say:
as long as
our conscience is clear
and we be Good People,
we are ok.
somehow, it is never
this simple.

all in the good spirit
of commemorating
the 43rd year
since our lovely neighbour,
Malaysia, ditched us,
we caught Money No Enough 2
for some anti-establishment
hokkien fixes
AND OF COURSE
to drive the economy as a
birthday token to our beloved nation.
MAJULAH SINGAPURA TO YALL.

the movie is good for
bad/forced/low humour,
blatant advertising for the sponsors,
awkward animations,
terrible calefare-acting,
idiot-proof storyline
but still, in some
unhealthy-junkfood way,
kinda enjoyable.
i laughed and cried thruout
but i guess
mostly because i am
a dramaqueen myself.
i just have a terrible thing for
old folks in despair;
their sad frail frame
just make me want
to sit by the window and EMO.
ok dont judge me.

so..
a somewhat disappointing show,
one of the least funny/creative
movies from Jack Neo's collection.

still,
it is heartwarming to know
that as our darling neighbour
is grappling with
one man's alleged gay tendencies,
all is fun and merry
today on our sunny island.
Proves: Some break-ups
are worth the while HAHA.

we went for the opening show of
the theatre festival,
The Swordfish, then the Concubine
at Dramabox, W!ldrice.
there were plenty of satire
and an undertone of protest
about today's society and political climate
in Singapore and Malaysia.
some parts were more explicit
than others,
it was all kinda hilarious.
there was a much needed
touch of comic relief
in the otherwise heavier
grim issues like Divine Justice,
our Psuedo-democracy,
Nepotism, Power-hunger,
Press-freedom etc.

Ivan Heng's artistic direction
was really clever:
scene-to-scene transition
in the absence of fancy stage design,
and the incorporation
of the gamelan ensemble.
i liked the content of it
but thought some of the
delivery were a lil awkward
and not very well polished.
mayb 'coz it was the
opening show.

that aside,
theatre is so cathartic
in that
it brings out
the unspoken struggles of the
Common Man and plays out
what people long to
express
but are unable to do so artfully.

i don't think
ALL singaporeans are
apathetic altho it is
quite safe to say MOST are.
but we really arent
the obedient, controlled
and unthinking people
angmohs imagine us to be.
we are aware,
thing is
we are just conditioned
to be Passive.
HAHAHA
o what the hell
stop judging us we were
taught to live like this
for decades:
AND SO THE KINGDOM THRIVES
AND THE PEOPLE CONTINUE THEIR
DAILY LIVES~~

11:57 PM

FAMILIARITY.

so that day
the strange forces came
again.
it is all a very sad affair,
how i so knowingly sentimentalize
this and
then go back to the cycle
of getting thrown into the
the damned dilemma of righteousness
and logic.

if i have to describe very
matter of factly
what this is:
it is this enduring naggy feeling
that extents from the upper torso
into some part of the head
that signals pain.
then i would do things
out of character
like selftalk excessively
and feel this stupid
longing-ness.

it is really not
a very comfortable feeling.
GO ON ROLL YOUR
COLD UNSYMPATHETIC EYES AT ME
I AM SADZZZZ_88.

it would be nice
if i could develop
some real
adult thoughts
as immunity to this
Really Bad Feeling.

他们说
退一步 海阔天空。
退?
要嘛
就狠狠的给它
跨过去,
然后,头也不回
的 往前走。
跨了这一步
把世界都 看开了
哪还管它
海阔不阔?

11:44 PM

you know
there's no need to
reduce you to some
mawkish overused label
like "Best Friend",
how would that do you justice?
happy second decade of life
Pauline Chia Jia Li.

we National Museum-ed
it is all too funky to track
how society has evolved in the
matter of decades.
one day whatever we know as
contemporary today
would be nothing more than
an obsolete passe on exhibition.
human beans are cute like that.
omgz to the coolness of
the old wayang and films of the 20s - 60s!
